Onion index falls by 11%

​​Seven of the nine commodity group sub-Indices and 20 of the 29 individual commodity sub-Indices declined this week.

Onion Index fell 11% with onset of crop arrivals in South India while cereals and flood-hit Kerala commodities such as rubber, pepper and cardamom gained. The base for the Index and all sub-Indices is 2014 (= 100).

The Agriwatch Agri Commodities Index fell 0.74per cent to 109.06 during the week ended Sept 1, 2018 from 109.88 the previous week led by a broadbased decline in agri-commodity prices.

Onion Index fell 11per cent with onset of crop arrivals in South India while cereals and flood-hit Kerala commodities such as rubber, pepper and cardamom gained. The base for the Index and all sub-Indices is 2014 (= 100).

The commodity group sub-Index values and their weekly changes are: Cereals: 116.09 (+0.53per cent), Pulses: 106.92 (-2.13per cent), Potato & Onion: 81.88 (-7.55per cent), Edible Oils: 111.16 (-1.16per cent), Oilseeds: 101.60 (-1.83per cent), Spices: 116.40 (+0.32per cent), Sweeteners: 102.35 (-1.26per cent), Fibres: 113.98 (-0.01per cent) and Other Non-Food Articles: 95.80 (+1.49per cent).
