Mentha oil rules steady with negative bias

NEW DELHI: Mentha oil futures moved steady with a downside bias on Monday.

MCX Mentha futures slipped by Re 1, or 0.06 per cent, at Rs 1,633.90 at around 11.05 am.

Mentha oil output has been steady to lower over the past few years. Buoyed by a decent appreciation last year, farmers' sowing improved, resulting in higher production this year, said Anuj Gupta, Deputy Vice-President, Research, Angel Broking.


Extracted from the herb Mentha arvensis through distillation, mentha oil is chiefly used in food and flavourings.

Besides, natural menthol has cooling and soothing effect on skin and mucous membrane of the human body, making it a useful ingredient in pharmaceuticals and the cosmetics industry.
