Mentha oil keeps a positive line

NEW DELHI: Mentha oil futures ruled steady with a positive undertone on Tuesday morning.

MCX Mentha futures gained Rs 6.10, or 0.37 per cent, at Rs 1,664.50 at around 10.30 am.

Extracted from herb Mentha arvensis through distillation, mentha oil is widely used in food and flavorings.


Besides, natural menthol has cooling and soothing effect on skin and mucous membrane of the human body, making it a useful ingredient in pharmaceuticals and the cosmetics industry.

The oil in the crude form is made free of moisture by treatment with dehydrating agents like sodium sulfate, filtered and stored in airtight containers, preferably made up of aluminium or galvanised iron.

Mentha is normally sown in February and March and harvested in May and June.
