Mentha oil futures make a sprint

NEW DELHI: Mentha oil futures were in good nick early Friday.

MCX Mentha futures firmed up by Rs 18.30, or 1.12 per cent, at Rs 1,653.20 at around 10.31 am.

Mentha oil output has been steady to lower in the past few years. Buoyed by decent appreciation last year, farmers' sowing improved, resulting in higher production this year, said Anuj Gupta, Deputy Vice-President, Research, Angel Broking.


Extracted from the herb Mentha arvensis through distillation, mentha oil is widely used in food and flavourings.

Besides, natural menthol has cooling and soothing effect on skin and mucous membrane of the human body, making it a useful ingredient in pharmaceuticals and the cosmetics industry.
