Trading on MCX will be limited to the evening session on Wednesday, January 15. This is due to Municipal Corporation elections in Maharashtra.

Trading in gold, silver and other commodities on the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) will be restricted to the evening session on Wednesday, January 15, due to the Municipal Corporation elections being held in Maharashtra.

In a circular issued on January 12, the commodities derivative exchange platform said that it will remain closed for the morning trading session from 9 am to 5 pm in view of the civic polls in the state. As a result, trading in bullion contracts such as gold and silver will begin only in the evening session, which will operate from 5 pm to 11:55 pm. For select agricultural commodities, trading will be permitted only until 9 pm, the exchange said.

Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) operates in two sessions every trading day (Monday to Friday). The first session starts at 9:00 am and ends at 5:00 pm. Evening session starts at 5:00 pm and runs until 11:30 pm, or is extended to 11:55 pm IST during the U.S. daylight saving time period. This session is designed to overlap with global commodity markets, and allows trading in non-agricultural commodities like metals and energy products (e.g., gold, silver, crude oil).

Further, the Indian stock market will remain closed for trading on Thursday, January 15 following municipal corporation elections in Maharashtra. Both the BSE and NSE have issued revised circulars confirming that there will be no trading across segments tomorrow. In a circular, the BSE said trading in the equity segment, equity derivatives, commodity derivatives and electronic gold receipts will stay shut on January 15.

In a circular, the BSE said trading in the equity segment, equity derivatives, commodity derivatives and electronic gold receipts will stay shut on January 15. It also clarified that equity derivatives contracts originally scheduled to expire on January 15, 2026 will now expire a day earlier on January 14, 2026, and that these changes will be reflected in the end-of-day contract master files. The NSE, too, has updated its earlier communication to declare January 15 a trading holiday in the capital market as well as the F&O segment.
