Gold Rate Today: Gold prices flat in early trade; silver up

NEW DELHI: Gold prices were trading almost flat in early trade on Friday on account of subdued demand of the precious metal from investors, jewellers and retails. MCX Gold prices were down 0.05 per cent at Rs 30,310 per 10 gram at around 10.40 am (IST).

The yellow metal remained soft as the dollar firmed after upbeat US economic data supported the Federal Reserve’s resolve for steady interest rate hikes over the next year.




On the other hand, silver was trading in green. MCX Silver futures were up 0.12 per cent at Rs 37,643 per 1 kg at around the same time.

SPDR Gold Trust GLD, the world’s largest gold-backed exchange traded fund, said its latest holdings stood at 742.23 tonnes, remain unchanged from previous business day.

Latest holdings of the largest silver backed exchange-traded-fund (ETF), New York's iShares Silver Trust SLV, stood at 10358.91 tonnes down 16.08 tonnes, from previous business day.

Coming to stock markets, the BSE Sensex gained over 150 points and Nifty reclaimed the 11,000 mark in early trade as the October derivatives series took off on a strong footing amid positive global cues.
