Agri Commodities Index falls 1.64%

Maize, potato, groundnut oil and red chilli were the only four commodities within the Index to log weekly gains.

The Agriwatch Agri Commodities Index fell 1.64% to 111.73 during the week ended March 7, 2020 from 113.59 the previous week amid a broad based decline in agricultural commodity prices. The Index has now fallen for 9 successive weeks. So widespread was the fall that eight of the nine commodity group sub-Indices and 25 of the 29 individual commodity sub-Indices that constitute the Index, ended the week lower. Maize, potato, groundnut oil and red chilli were the only four commodities within the Index to log weekly gains. The commodity group sub-Index values and their weekly changes are: Cereals: 111.42 (-2.10%), Pulses: 124.94 (-1.86%), Potato & Onion: 102.29 (-2.13%), Edible Oils: 119.25 (-1.93%), Oilseeds: 106.82 (-2.62%), Spices: 148.21 (+3.72%), Sweeteners: 103.92 (-1.20%), Fibres: 98.58 (-1.64%) and Other Non-Food Articles: 84.87 (-1.63%).
