New Tufs for textiles round the corner

The much-awaited modifications in the Technology Upgradation Fund Scheme (TUFS) for the textile sector is expected to be announced soon.

COIMBATORE: The much-awaited modifications in the Technology Upgradation Fund Scheme (TUFS) for the textile sector is expected to be announced soon, according to Textile Commissioner, JN Singh. Speaking to mediapersons on Tuesday, Mr Singh said most of the suggestions given by the ministry of textiles had been accepted by the secretaries-level committee. “It will now go to the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs for approval. Special emphasis is expected on certain sectors such as garments and technical textiles, which required a greater push,” he added.

The textiles ministry would organise Texsummit 2007 to deliberate on various issues of concern to the textile industry. Four working groups had been formed for the summit on textile inputs, human resource development, policy framework on the role of government and market development. The conference would act as an integrated platform to deliberate on efforts needed to boost exports, production and improving the market space for the Indian textile manufacturers. Long-term issues such as labour, transaction cost and State-level levies would be highlighted at the discussions, Mr Singh said.
