MMTC to sell 2,500 tonnes of Australian dun peas

The state-owned trading firm MMTC Ltd plans to sell 2,500 tonnes of Australian dun peas in the domestic market.

NEW DELHI: The state-owned trading firm MMTC Ltd plans to sell 2,500 tonnes of Australian dun peas in the domestic market.

The company has invited bids, which would close on December 11. A decision on the tender would be taken by December 18, MMTC said in a statement.

"The first lot of dun peas weighting 363 tonnes has been shipped from Australia and is expected to arrive at Tuticorin port in Kerala around December 18. The rest 2,137 tonnes of dun peas is expected to arrive in January 2008," the company said.

It added that the offer should be made in lots of 500 tonnes or more. However, parties bidding for the full quantity would be given preference.

Dun peas would be of Australian orgin, grown in 2007 season, it added.

MMTC has contracted for import of total 4,500 tonnes of dun peas since April 2006, of which, 1,960 tonnes has arrival on November 13.

So far, the company has imported total 1.98 lakh tonnes of pulses like dun peas, urad and yellow peas.
