Minister praises exports performance in Italy
India's 2006-07 coffee-export performance in the highly competitive market of Italy came in for praise from Union minister of state for commerce Jairam Ramesh.
BANGALORE: India's 2006-07 coffee-export performance in the highly competitive market of Italy came in for praise from Union minister of state for commerce Jairam Ramesh.
The minister was awarding the leading Indian coffee exporters for 2006-07. Italy was the number-one market for Indian coffee, accounting for 62,786 tonnes. The year also saw India's best-ever export performance, totalling 248,687 tonnes.
Coffee Board chairman G V Krishna Rau pointed out that these exports earned foreign exchange to the tune of Rs 2,008 crore and that the previous best was 247,000 tonnes in 2000-01. Nestle India bagged three awards for best exporter of instant coffee, highest exports of coffee to the Russia and CIS, and highest exports to the Far East.
Allanasons bagged two awards for best exporter of green coffee and highest exports to the Middle East. Tata Coffee bagged the award for highest exports of roasted coffee. General Commodities won the award for highest exports to the EU, Aspinwall for best exporter of speciality coffee and Chimco for highest coffee exports to the USA.
