At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, maize prices for delivery in March shot up by Rs 36, or 2.72 per cent, to Rs 1,360 per quintal with an opening interest of 690 lots.

Marketmen said brisk demand at spot markets from consuming industries against thin supplies from growing regions mainly led to the rise in maize prices at futures trade here.

Besides, reports of a firming trend in global markets influenced sentiments, they added.
