Jeera, turmeric fall on sluggish demand

Jeera and turmeric prices fell by Rs 100 per quintal in the national capital today largely due to slackened demand from retailers and exporters.

NEW DELHI: Jeera and turmeric prices fell by Rs 100 per quintal in the national capital today largely due to slackened demand from retailers and exporters.

Adequate stocks following increased arrivals from producing regions and weakening trend in futures markets also put pressure on the spice prices.

Jeera common and jeera best quality drifted by Rs 100 each to settle at Rs 13,500-13,600 and Rs 16,700-17,200 per quintal.

Turmeric prices also declined by Rs 100 to Rs 4,700-8,200 per quintal.

Marketmen said subdued demand from retailers as well as exporters against adequate stocks position mainly pulled down the jeera and turmeric prices at the wholesale kirana market here.

The following are today's quotations: Ajwain 10,000-15,500, black pepper (per kg) 450-500, betelnut (kg) 160-195, cardamom brown-Jhundiwali (kg) 770-850, and cardamom brown-Kanchicut (kg) 850-1,000.
