Jeera, turmeric decline on lack of buying

Jeera and turmeric prices fell by Rs 100 per quintal in the national capital today largely due to lack of buying support from retailers.

NEW DELHI: Jeera and turmeric prices fell by Rs 100 per quintal in the national capital today largely due to lack of buying support from retailers and stockists.

Increased arrivals from producing regions and weakening trend in producing belts also put pressure on the spice prices.

Jeera common and jeera best quality drifted by Rs 100 each to settle at Rs 13,300-13,400 and Rs 16,500-17,000 per quintal.

Turmeric prices also declined by Rs 100 to Rs 4,600-8,100 per quintal.

Marketmen said lack of buying support from retailers as well as stockists against adequate stocks position mainly pulled down the jeera and turmeric prices at the wholesale kirana market here.

The following are today's quotations: Ajwain 10,000-15,500, black pepper (per kg) 450-500, betelnut (kg) 160-195, cardamom brown-Jhundiwali (kg) 770-850, and cardamom brown-Kanchicut (kg) 850-1,000.
