Jeera, pepper decline on subdued demand

Jeera prices declined by Rs 200 per quintal in the national capital today largely due to weak retailers.

NEW DELHI: Jeera prices declined by Rs 200 per quintal in the national capital today largely due to weak retailers and export demand prevailing at higher levels amid adequate stocks.

Fresh arrivals from producing region also put pressure on the prices.

Jeera common and jeera best quality fell by Rs 200 each to conclude at Rs 12,800-13,000 and Rs 15,900-16,600 per quintal, respectively, on fresh arrivals of new crop amid subdued domestic demand.

Similarly, black pepper prices declined by Rs 20 to settled at Rs 420-450 per kg on sluggish domestic and overseas demand.

Meanwhile, rest of the spices remained steady in the absence of any worthwhile buying.

Marketmen said weak retailers and export demand amid adequate stocks mainly pulled down the jeera and pepper prices at the wholesale kirana market here.
