Jeera futures rise on spot demand

Jeera prices rose by Rs 240 to Rs 14,150 per quintal in futures trade today as participants created fresh positions.

NEW DELHI: Supported by a firm spot market demand, jeera prices rose by Rs 240 to Rs 14,150 per quintal in futures trade today as participants created fresh positions.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, jeera for delivery in August shot up by Rs 240, or 1.73 per cent, to Rs 14,150 per quintal, with an open interest of 14,715 lots.

Similarly, the spice for delivery in the July edged higher by Rs 210, or 1.56 per cent, to Rs 13,690 per quintal, with an open interest of 13,251 lots.

Analysts said fresh buying by speculators following pick-up in spot market demand mainly influenced jeera futures prices but increased supplies in the domestic market and weak exports limited the gains.
