Jeera futures rise on export demand

Jeera prices rose by Rs 75 to Rs 13,150 per quintal in futures trading on Thursday.

NEW DELHI: Jeera prices rose by Rs 75 to Rs 13,150 per quintal in futures trading today as speculators built up fresh positions, supported by a rise in export demand in the spot market.

However, increased supplies from the new season crop and expectations of higher output this year restricted gains.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, jeera for delivery in April rose by Rs 75, or 0.57 per cent to Rs 13,150 per quintal with an open interest of 153 lots.

Similarly, the spice for delivery in May gained Rs 60, or 0.46 per cent to Rs 13,240 per quintal in 12,015 lots.

Markets analysts said fresh positions created by speculators on the back of a rise in export demand in the spot market mainly helped jeera prices to trade higher at futures trade.
