Jeera futures fall on profit-booking, higher supply

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, jeera for delivery in April fell by Rs 52.50 to Rs 13,670 per quintal.

NEW DELHI: Jeera prices fell by Rs 52.50 to Rs 13,670 per quintal in futures trade on Friday as speculators booked profits at existing levels amid increased supply from the producing regions.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, jeera for delivery in April fell by Rs 52.50, or 0.38 per cent to Rs 13,670 per quintal with an open interest of 1,056 lots.

Likewise, the spice for delivery in May lost Rs 40, or 0.29 per cent to Rs 13,755 per quintal in 14,442 lots.

Analysts said apart from profit-booking by speculators, supply pressure in the spot market mainly influenced the jeera futures prices but some export enquiries, limited the fall.
