Jeera futures fall on new crop arrivals
Jeera prices fell by Rs 132.50 to Rs 11,985 per quintal in futures trade today on selling by speculators, driven by reports of fresh arrivals of new crop amid subdued domestic demand.
Expectations of a bumber crops in growing areas this year also kept pressure on jeera prices.
At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, jeera for delivery in April declined by Rs 132.50, or 1.09 per cent, to Rs 11,985 per quintal, with an open interest of 14,817 lots.
Similarly, the spice for delivery in May lost Rs 130, or 1.05 per cent, to Rs 12,290 per quintal, with an open interest of 10,113 lots.
Analysts said apart from rising arrivals of new crop in the physical market, subdued domestic demand mainly kept jeera futures weak.
