Jeera contracts hit upper circuit on poor arrival

Jeera contracts hit upper circuit on Thursday on account of reduced arrivals at the Unjha mandi.

MUMBAI: Jeera contracts hit upper circuit on Thursday on account of reduced arrivals at the Unjha mandi. The May futures contract closed up by 2.8% at Rs 14,340 per quintal as against the previous close of Rs 13,943 per quintal.

“Arrivals of jeera at the mandi were down to 8,000-10,000 bags as against last week’s arrivals of 13,000-14,000 bags of approximately 60 kg each and that has led the prices to rise,” said Faiyaz Hundani from Kotak Commodity Services.

NCDEX recorded a turnover of Rs 5,725 crore with active trades in jeera, chan, pepper, chillies, guar seed and refined soya oil. Jeera did a volume of Rs 1,175 crore and chana Rs 1,225 crore. Pepper registered a volume of Rs 1,363 crore. In guar seed Rs 593 crore volume was clocked while in refined soya oil volume of Rs 283 crore was clocked.

Gold price rose internationally to $682 an ounce on the New York Mercantile Exchange, as euro pared gains against the dollar. Crude also gained momentum with heavier than expected fall in gasoline stockpiles in US.
