Cardamom futures extend gain on rising demand

Amid rising domestic as well as exports demand at spot market and restricted supplies from producing region, cardamom futures advanced by 0.62 per cent in futures trade today as participants widened their bets.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, cardamom for delivery in far-month March went up by Rs 4.60, or 0.62 per cent, to Rs 743.60 per kg, in a business turnover of 49 lots.

Likewise, the spice for delivery in February traded higher by Rs 2.60, or 0.37 per cent, to Rs 714.70 per kg in 62 lots.

Analysts said traders enlarged positions on the back of pick up in domestic and exports demand at the spot market against restricted supplies from producing belts, drove cardamom prices higher at futures trade.

Muted demand drags down refined soya oil futures 0.31%

Refined soya oil prices were down by 0.31 per cent to Rs 617.40 per 10 kg in futures trading today as traders trimmed positions, taking negative cues from spot market on sluggish demand.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, refined soya oil for delivery in February eased by Rs 1.95, or 0.31 per cent, to Rs 617.40 per 10 kg, with an open interest of 48,770 lots.

Similarly, the oil for delivery in March shed Rs 1.45, or 0.23 per cent, to Rs 616 per 10 kg in 58,830 lots.

Analysts attributed the fall in refined soya oil futures to tepid demand at the spot market against adequate stocks on higher supplies from producing belts.

Chana futures gain 0.22% on firm demand

Extending yesterday's gain, chana prices were higher by 0.22 per cent to Rs 4,082 per quintal in futures trade today as participants engaged in building up their positions, driven by rising demand in the spot market.

However, expectations of higher supplies from new season crop and favorable climate across chana growing states - Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, capped the rise.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, chana for delivery in April rose by Rs 9, or 0.22 per cent, to Rs 4,082 per quintal, with an open interest of 29,220 lots.

Likewise, the commodity for delivery in May edged up by Rs 6, or 0.15 per cent, to Rs 4,129 per quintal in 6,750 lots.

Analysts said widening of position by traders on the back of rising demand in the spot market mainly kept chana prices higher at futures trade.
