The government has fixed the production target for wheat at 75.5 million tons and for rice output it is 93 million tons for 2007-08.

NEW DELHI: The government has fixed the production target for wheat at 75.5 million tons and for rice output it is 93 million tons for 2007-08.
The target for all other crops for the current year is likely to be released during the National Conference on Agriculture for Rabi Campaign 2007-08, which will be held between September 18-19 in New Delhi, an official said.
The wheat target for the current year is fixed at a conservative level as production was 74.89 million tons in 2006-07 as per the fourth advance estimate, the official said.
The rice target includes 80 million tons production in the on-going kharif season while 13 million tons has been fixed for the rabi season, which begins with the onset of winter.
