LONDON: Gold today erased gains in the aftermath of the Brussels bombings, falling to its lowest in a week as the dollar climbed for a fourth day.

Gold sank 1.4 per cent to USD 1,231.38 an ounce. On Tuesday, the metal rose 1.3 per cent after bombings in Brussels yesterday, killing at least 35 people.

Silver also lost 1.6 per cent to USD 15.62 an ounce.

Gold's gain this year has been pared to 16 per cent as the dollar staged a recovery, damping demand for bullion as an alternative investment.
