LONDON: Gold today held near the lowest level in more than a week as signs of strength in the US economy supported the case for higher borrowing costs.

Gold rose 0.2 per cent to USD 1,189.43 an ounce after touching USD 1,184.45, the lowest since April 14.

Silver, however, increased 0.6 per cent to USD 15.89 an ounce. Platinum advanced 0.1 per cent to USD 1,131.63 an ounce.

Economic data on Thursday may show an expansion in manufacturing and fewer Americans applying for jobless benefits. Sales of previously owned homes jumped in March to the highest since September 2013, National Association of Realtors data showed on Wednesday.
