The four-day long business-to-consumer exhibition will be held in Delhi for the first time and is scheduled to be inaugurated by Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit.
The fair will be jointly organised by the Gems and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) and the India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO).
"The first edition of India Gem and Jewellery Fair is expected to attract a large number of consumers and we have an ambitious plan to host it every year," ITPO Chairperson-cum- Managing Director Rita Menon said at a function here.
Covering an area of 6,700 square meters, around 200 companies will showcase a wide range of designer products and high-end jewellery items. Leading exhibitors include P C Jewellers, Gitanjali, Intergem Exports, Rio Tinto, Hazoorilal, Rosily Paul, Pooja Juneja and Monica Kapoor, GJEPC Chairman Vipul Shah said.
"The fair will provide a platform to existing and new designers to exhibit their collection and will also bring closer trade and consumers," Shah said.
Sharing similar views, Menon said that during the fair, it is not really possible to estimate the business generation. The fair is a stepping stone and will show results after few months.
In regard to security arrangements for the high-end jewellery expo, Menon said, "We have ensured that there is a tight security not only by the ITPO Security but also Delhi Police has supported us for this."
