NEW DELHI: Keeping an eye on assembly polls later this year, Delhi government today said it would sell subsidised edible oil through fair price shops to give relief to the common man from rising prices of the commodity in the national capital.

"We have asked the Centre to supply 20 lakhs litre of edible oils--palmoline and soya oil--to be distributed through ration shops to the BPL card holders.

"The Centre would provide a subsidy of Rs 15 a litre to the state government," Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit told reporters here.

She said palmoline oil would be sold from July 1 while soya oil from within next two months.

It was only some days ago that Dikshit had ruled out supplying of edible oil.

Even as inflation has soared to 11.05 per cent, Dikshit claimed the rate of inflation as far as daily consumable items of the common man were concerned it was around 7 per cent.
