Cotton prices display softening trend
Cotton lint prices displayed a softening trend as seed cotton arrivals started picking up fast in Northern belts during the second fortnight of September, South India Cotton Association (SICA) said here.
The arrivals in Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra also picked up and reports from all cotton growing tracts indicated a smooth and steady progress of crop on predicted lines and expected up to 315 lakh bales during this season.
The prices exhibited a softening trend in Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan, where Bengal Deshi variety quoted at Rs 1,580 to Rs 1,650 and J-34 Saw ginned at Rs 1,850 to Rs 1,960 per maund spot, SICA, in its market report for the period, said.
Shankar-6 ruled at Rs 19,200 to Rs 19,700 and V797 Rs 14,900 to Rs 15,100 per candy spot in Gujarat, indicating a softening trend, while prices continued to be easier in Madhya Pradesh, as Mech and H4 were quoted at Rs 19,000 to Rs 19,200 per candy spot.
Price levels ranged between Rs 18,200 to Rs 19,000 per candy spot depending on staple of 28mm to 29mm in Maharashtra.
Prices maintained an easy trend in Andhra Pradesh, where MCU5 was being quoted at Rs 20,300 to Rs 20,500 per candy spot, while DCH-32 quoted between Rs 27,300 and Rs 29,500 per candy spot, showing an easier trend, following little demand.
In Tamil Nadu, prices ruled easier than the previous fortnight as arrivals were much less, SICA said.
