Chilli futures up on spot demand

The National Commodity and Derivative Exchange, chilli for delivery in April rose by Rs 108, or 1.52 per cent to Rs 7,236 per quintal.

NEW DELHI: Chilli prices shot up by Rs 108 to Rs 7,236 per quintal in futures trade on Monday, on the back of pick-up in spot demand against restricted arrivals from producing regions.

At the National Commodity and Derivative Exchange, chilli for delivery in April rose by Rs 108, or 1.52 per cent to Rs 7,236 per quintal, with an open interest of 6,185 lots.

Similarly, spice for delivery in March edged up by Rs 106, or 1.51 per cent to Rs 7,098 per quintal in 7,150 lots.

Market analysts said besides pick-up in spot demand, restricted arrivals from producing belts mainly led to the rise in chilli futures prices.
