Cardamom rises on fresh spot demand

Cardamom prices rose by Rs 12.80 to Rs 1,065 per kg in futures trade today, largely on the back of a pick-up in demand in the spot market.

NEW DELHI: Cardamom prices rose by Rs 12.80 to Rs 1,065 per kg in futures trade today, largely on the back of a pick-up in demand in the spot market.

Restricted arrivals from producing regions also supported the rise in prices.

On the Multi Commodity Exchange, cardamom for June contract delivery rose by Rs 12.80, or 1.22 per cent, to Rs 1,065 per kg with a trading volume of nine lots, while July contract cardamom increased by Rs 9.60, or 0.91 per cent, to Rs 1,060 per kg in five lots.

Similarly, the spice for May contract delivery gained Rs 7.90, or 0.75 per cent, to Rs 1,030 per kg with a business volume of 35 lots.

Traders said a pick-up in demand in the spot market against restricted arrivals from producing regions was mainly responsible for the rise in cardamom prices in futures trade.
