Black pepper, turmeric weaken on fresh selling

Black pepper and turmeric prices drifted by Rs 100 each per quintal in the national capital today on account of weak trends at producing regions.

NEW DELHI: Black pepper and turmeric prices drifted by Rs 100 each per quintal in the national capital today on account of weak trends at producing regions.

Black pepper fell by Rs 100 at 15,100-15,200 per quintal on poor export demand. Turmeric prices also traded lower at Rs 5,000-6,300 from last close of Rs 5,100-6,400 per quintal.

Marketmen said reports of subdued export demand and good rains in spices-growing regions mainly dampened the trading sentiments here.

They said a weak trend in select spices at futures markets too cast its shadow on the trading sentiments at wholesale market.

Following were today's quotations (in Rs per quintal): Ajwain 5,700-8,500 Black pepper common 15,100-15,200 Betelnut (kg) 95-105, cardamom brown (Jhundiwali) 14,500-14,600 and cardamom brown (Kanchicut) 17,000-20,000.
