Understand Gold & Oil markets: Move beyond equities to unlock new income stream

There was a time when it was probably optional for equity traders to understand what is happening in the commodity market. But today, it is necessary to understand commodity markets, for two simple reasons. First the interconnectedness between commodity and equity markets has increased manifold. Just for example, if there is a recession in the US, what would happen to equities, they are likely to take a hit. But gold prices might see a spike as the safe haven demand increases. So, companies which are in the supply chain ecosystem of gold are likely to see an upward trend. Similarly for oil or rather today one should use the word, energy. It is surprising to you that despite all the trouble in the middle east, oil prices have not moved upward. The reason is simple, the second biggest guzzler of oil, which is China, is not in probably the same shape as it used to be. So the demand side is still not strong and supply cuts are not working for OPEC.
