Barley future up on strong physical demand

Barley prices strengthened by Rs 17.50 to Rs 1,336 per quintal in futures trading today, following low levels buying, guided by firm spot market sentiment.

NEW DELHI: Barley prices strengthened by Rs 17.50 to Rs 1,336 per quintal in futures trading today, following low levels buying, guided by firm spot market sentiment.

Marketmen said strong demand from breweries and cattle feed making industries at existing lower levels, amid restricted supply in physical markets, mainly led the rise here in barley futures price.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, barley prices for current January contract hardened by Rs 17.50, or 1.33 per cent to Rs 1,336 per quintal, with an open interest of 1,550 lots.

Most active near April month contract also moved up by Rs 5, or 0.35 per cent to Rs 1,437 per quintal, having an open interest of 5,800 lots.
