SEBI allows 14 FIIs to invest Rs 2K cr in corporate bonds

SEBI on Monday allowed 14 foreign institutional investors, including Credit Suisse Singapore and Tata India Income Opportunities Fund, to invest up to Rs 2,000 crore in corporate bonds.

NEW DELHI: The market regulator SEBI on Monday allowed 14 foreign institutional investors, including Credit Suisse Singapore and Tata India Income Opportunities Fund, to invest up to Rs 2,000 crore in corporate bonds.

SEBI also permitted four FIIs to invest up to Rs 49 crore each in government bonds. With this as many as 14 FIIs and their sub-accounts can now invest in the range of Rs 1 crore to Rs 199 crore for buying corporate debt.

The regulator said these 14 FIIs have to use up the funds within 11 working days or before May 4. Currently, the cumulative FII investment limit is $15 billion for corporate debts and $5 billion for government debt.

The market watchdog gave go ahead to nine FIIs to invest a maximum of Rs 199 crore in corporate debt. They are Global Investment Opportunities Fund, DBS Bank, Kotak Investment Opportunities Fund, Kotak Global Funds, Kotak Infinity Fund, Tata India Income Opportunities, Credit Suisse Singapore, Cooperative Centrale Raiffeisen-Boerenleenbank and UTI Spectrum Fund.

Besides, India Optima Fund has been permitted to invest up to Rs 111 crore, Emerging India Focus Funds up to Rs 50 crore, Japan Trustee Services Bank up to Rs 25 crore, East Sail can pump in Rs 22 crore, and ACW Asset Management Co can invest Rs 1 crore.

For investments in government debt, SEBI has allocated a uniform limit of Rs 49 crore each to UBS AG, Legg Mason Global Funds, Credit Suisse Singapore, and UTI Spectrum Fund.
