Itanagar State: Arunachal Pradesh

Hemmed in by the lower hills of the Himalayas, Itanagar is a spectacular, scenic city that remains to be explored completely. Gyakar Sinyi, which means confined waters (also known as the Ganga Lake), is a natural lake enclosed by lush and gorgeous woods.

The 15-century Ita Fort (the Fort of Bricks) remains an edifice that lends its name to this city. Nearby locations of Bomdila, Malinithan, Parshuram Kund and Bhishmak Nagar are popular excursions from Itanagar.

Nestled in the chilly hills of Itanagar is a Buddhist temple called the Buddha Vihar with the most beautiful yellow roof. It sets the perfect mood for contemplation and reverence. Jawaharlal Nehru Museum showcases the history and tribal culture of Itanagar. Itanagar also has picturesque hill stations and adventure sports options that add the element of thrill in an otherwise tranquil vacation. Itanagar’s cuisine has a distinct Tibetan influence and do check out the local shops for an easy-on-the-pocket shopping experience.

The Zoological Park, Indira Gandhi Park and Polo Park are a few places where travellers can enjoy the company of flora and fauna. Itanagar can be reached by bus from various cities in Assam. Nearest airport and railway stations are in Assam. However, regular helicopter services are also available between Guwahati and Itanagar.
