Vibrant streets
Region:
Amsterdam

One of the most happening places to party, Amsterdam is must-visit for every traveller. On New Year’s Eve (and the month leading up to it), the Dutch enjoy traditional sweet treats called oliebollen (delicious round doughnuts coated with icing sugar) and appelflappen (tasty apple fritters). These can be found at various food stands across the city. Head to Dam Square, Nieuwmarkt, Leidseplein and Rembrandtplein to witness a display of firecrackers and live music.

Lit up: Amsterdam Light Festival is an annual light art festival in the Netherlands’ capital, known for its artistic heritage. Artists, architects and (light) designers from all over the world bring their light artworks and installations alive during the festival every winter. Each route has their own theme, set of artworks and visitor experience. Water Colours, the boat route, displays big monumental objects and offers visitors a chance to experience the art from a water perspective. The festival is on till January 22, 2017.
