Travel with a purpose to sustain nature’s green cover

Go ‘ecologically conscious’ as we mark World Environment Day on June 5.

Travel with a purpose to sustain nature’s green cover
The United Nations has designated 2017 as the International year of Sustainable Tourism and Development. ‘Connecting People to Nature’ is the theme for World Environment Day 2017 (June 5, 2017) and we uphold the ethos in this edition today.

Do you agree that World Environment Day is a day for everyone, everywhere. It is interesting to note that this day has been marked annually on June 5 since it began in 1972. Globally, there have been a plethora of events, beach clean-ups, to action against wildlife crime, ways to stop deforestation and simply looking at going green.

News has it that on the eve of June 5, historical landmarks including the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, the Empire State Building, China’s Guangzhou Tower and the Water Cube in Beijing; the CN Tower in Toronto; the Moroccan Parliament in Rabat; and the city halls of Venice and Bangkok will glow in green hues. Lucky ones may also spot the Niagara Falls and the Panama Canal as it shines in pretty green light.
