Prague offers an evocative old-world charm that only a few cities can match. The city of hundred spires and a UNESCO monument is equally contemporary in its outlook.

It is little wonder that the city continues to attract filmmakers of every genre and in some cases again and again. There are numerous films in which Prague has represented other European cities.

In the eight-time Oscar-winning film 'Amadeus', though set in Vienna, the film was shot entirely in Prague. The film was shot in the Lesser Town, in the Archbishop’s and the Wallenstein Palaces, and at the Estates Theatre. Wolfgang Amadeus’ film wedding with Constance took place in the Church of St. Giles on Husova Street, and in the scene with Mozart's coffin is carried out of the city under gloomy skies, Vyšehrad’s Leopold Gateway can be easily recognised.

Similarly, various pivotal scenes of the movie 'Mission: Impossible' were shot in Prague. In fact, some places in Prague actually stand-in for others. Almost 15 years later, Tom Cruise and 'Mission: Impossible–Ghost Protocol' came back to Prague for the fourth film of the franchise. This time, however, Prague stood-in for Moscow and Prague Castle for Moscow’s Kremlin.

On the other hand, Prague also represented the city on the Thames in 'Shanghai Knights', where Prague Castle stood in for Buckingham Palace.

Of the Hollywood big movies partially shot in Prague, there’s James Bond film 'Casino Royale', which was filmed here for the first time outside the UK, in which the steps outside the National Museum played the role of a Venetian hotel.
