The Palace of Mysore was official residence and seat of the Wodeyars . the Maharajas of Mysore, the former royal family of Mysore, who ruled the princely state of Mysore from 1399 to 1950. The palace houses two durbar halls and a mesmerising and array of courtyards, gardens, and buildings.

Mysore, derived from eMahishasurana Ooruf, was named from the demon Mahishasura who was killed by goddess Chamundershwari at the top of Chamundi Hill just outside Mysore. The goddess Chamundershwari is visited by thousands of people every year. The Chamundeshwari Temple, a Hindu place of worship, is also located atop Chamundi Hill.
