Get on the East Coast Road (ECR), which is a scenic highway hugging the coast from Chennai. If you wish to introduce your kids to local art then stop by at the Cholamandala Artists’ Village before heading on to the World Heritage Site of the ruins at Mahabalipuram. Take your kids for a turtle walk on the main beach and for fishing trips to the sea.



Mahabalipuram is also famous for surfers, so rent out that board from the vendors on the beach and learn a lesson or two in surfing. You could also learn stone carving or how to sculpt a simple locket, depending on the time and patience you possess. To get a taste of French elegance, head to Pondicherry (also known as Puducherry). This 155 kms drive is perfect for families with toddlers or teens.
