From action to sci-fi, faraway picturesque landscapes have attracted filmmakers to shoot movies of every genre.

Dotted with colourful buildings and plentiful local parks, Reykjavik is the first stop in the country that serves as an excellent home base for exploring the surrounding landscape.

Over the years, Reykjavik has also seen its fair share of film and TV shoots. In fact, the city has inspired various movie titles of the same name such as 101 Reykjavik, Reykjavik and Reykjavik-Rotterdam, just to list a few.

There is no dearth of picturesque landscapes around Reykjavik that offer perfect backdrop for movies of every budget scale.

Svínafellsjökull glacier has been seen and used in more than one movie. The most well known is probably 'Batman Begins'. Similarly, the sci-fi movie 'Interstellar' also took place on the glacier. 'Oblivion' starring Tom Cruise was shot across various scenic locations, which are part of Iceland’s most unique landscapes.

Among the most popular areas for film shoots is the South Coast with its stunning variety of waterfalls, black sand beaches, glaciers and, of course, the everpopular Jökulsárlón glacial lagoon. First seen in the James Bond film 'Die Another Day' where the whole lagoon was frozen in order to film an epic car chase scene on it.
