Today, the village stands as an example of the ‘conservation for livelihood’ model. It is a beautiful sight to watch the turtle hatchlings take little strides towards the water as soon as they are released on the shore. A visit to this beach haven is perfect for a weekend getaway. An overnight road journey to Velas is just ideal so that you can head to the beach early in the morning. Watch the tiny hatchlings make their way outside their sandy cocoon, towards the brightest lights of the horizon- before they embrace the waves. Post sighting session, enjoy a local Konkani style breakfast and head to Harihareshwar via jetty. You can also add Shrivardhan Beach, the Bankot Fort, which is well-known for its history and a bird’s eye view of silvery sands of the Velas Beach.
