MADRID
Region: Spain

Tagged as one of Europe’s top shopping destinations, the Spanish capital caters to different types of shoppers and a range of budgets.

Ideally, there are five areas to head to for a myriad shopping experience: Salamanca, Chueca, Puerta del Sol, Calle Princesa and Cuatro Caminos. Each area is known to cater to different tastes and budgets.

The more upmarket Salamanca neighbourhood, based around the streets of Serrano, Velazquez and Goya, is the place to go for the top designer boutiques and more expensive stores. On the other hand, Chueca as a shopping district is quite well-known for its avant-garde and hipper Spanish fashion shops and numerous stores. While Puerta del Sol is the vibrant part of the city full of bars, restaurants and boutique shops, the Calle Princesa is a street lined with large department stores as well as shops, making it perfect for window-shopping. Stores vary in price range and specialty, and there is a nice array of men's clothing stores to choose from. At Cuatro Caminos, alongside shopping centres with the latest trends, a visitor would find clothes and shoe shops together with small businesses and markets selling things at popular prices.
