Luxury dressing: Expert tips

I’m travelling to Thailand to attend a yacht wedding in mid-June . It will be humid. Can you suggest what to wear?

You could try a fun pair of linen Jodhpur pants and team it with a linen shirt. Wear loafers for the comfort factor. The look will be Indian, yet a bit formal, considering that it is a wedding affair. For prewedding ceremonies like the mehendi, you cold opt for kurtas in fun colours like lemon yellow or rust with self said work on it. Team it with easy salwars, churidars or linen pants.

I’m heading for a gourmet dinner event at a Michelin Star restaurant in the United States. The dress code is formal but I still don’t want to look like just another guy in a black suit. Please advice.

Why not wear a bundgala instead of western wear. Even international designers like Giorgio Armani make bundgalas now! It’s princely and you could pick one with western detailing and subtle buttons. Pair it with a white shirt, double cuffs, attractive cufflinks, smart black trousers and formal shoes and you’re ready to make heads turn!

I’m jetting off for a vacation to Dubai with my family. I like to travel light. What are the essentials you suggest I should carry along for sight-seeing and sit down dinners?

Wow! I like to pile it on while travelling but if you are not keen on too many changes, carry a couple of pairs of jeans. Throw in a bunch of shirts and tops to match different occasions. Also, carry a nice dress for a formal night out, if need be.

I’m going cruising in Goa with my friends in a couple of days. What kind of clothes and footwear can I experiment with while on a cruise vacation?

Opt for easy and chilled out wear. Pack in lots of loose chiffon tops or soft linen ones. You can also wear mulmul kurtas over your swimsuit. For footwear, I’d recommend chappals and gladiators... just make sure you get a pedicure before you flaunt your feet.

I definitely think that men should start promoting bundgalas, even at international outings. They are aesthetic, have an old world charm and are very different too. But if you are keen on western wear, stick to a nice suit and play with colours and opt for navy blue or burgundy instead of plain old blacks.
