Region: Hawke’s Bay, Wairarapa & Martinborough

The Classic New Zealand Wine Trail is a fabulous road trip that spans across top wine regions – Hawke’s Bay, Wairarapa and Martinborough.

Studies show that together these three regions make for almost 80 per cent of wine production (well, who’s complaining).

Food and wine writers and also photography enthusiasts have often fancied the wineries and vineyards.

These trails are now high on most Indian travellers’ list.

Start your drive from Hawke’s Bay. Along the wineries, you can find gourmet stores where fresh produce and artisan products can be purchased.

In Wairarapa region, vineyards are located within close proximity. You can park your car and then walk ahead to explore the lush scenic surroundings. Gladstone and Masterton are other wine sub-regions.

New Zealand’s largest wine producing area is also the title holder as the ‘Sauvignon Capital’, Martinborough is must-visit for every wine enthusiast. Experts claim that it is the sauvignon blanc, which is the region’s topseller, however, you must taste the chardonnay, riesling and pinot noir as well.

Known particularly for the popular Marlborough Sounds, it’s also the seafood which is found to be a great match with the region’s wines.
