International Yoga Day: Join PM Narendra Modi in Dehradun to gain more insight

The three venues in Dehradun that were shortlisted for International Day of Yoga are seeing a stream of enthusiasts since a week now. The three venues being the Gorkha Training Centre (GTC) Grounds, Maharana Pratap College of Physical Education and Forest Research Institute (FRI) grounds. Ministry of Ayush had also announced the main event of International Day of Yoga with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s participation.

Officials had already initiated a country-wide mobilisation for taking up appropriate and specific activities for observing the International Day of Yoga (IDY) 2018, through a series of activities.


Different central ministries and departments, state governments, gram pradhans (of about 2.5 lakh villages), yoga institutes, educational institutes, chambers of commerce, municipal bodies and others were provided with suggested lists of activities. One of the highlights of IDY celebrations in India is the announcement of the Prime Minister’s ‘Yoga Awards’. The awards are presented each year for exemplary contribution to development and promotion of yoga.

This year, more than 200 nominations/applications were received for the awards. Joint Secretary P N Ranjeet said that the ministry is also developing a yoga protocol for women above the age of 40 in consultation with IMS.
