Head to Puri for a dose of sun, sand, surfing and salvation!

PURI BEACH

REGION: Odisha

Apart from the fine white sands, Puri Beach is also renowned for the sand sculptures created by the Padma Shri 2014 Awarded Sudarsan Pattnaik. The subjects are generally inspired by sculptures covering the temple walls, characters and episodes from mythology and also contemporary events. The beach has continued to be a sacred venue for an endless number of pilgrims coming to pay homage to Lord Jagannath. Tourists can witness striking sunrises and sunsets on the same beach.

Do visit a fishing village along the coast to get an insight into the lives of the fisherfolk. The best time to pay a visit is around dawn, when the fishermen head out from the village and row towards the rising sun over the sea. The beach is ideal for surfing but most tourists are advised to be careful as on somedays the waves can be very high. During the evening, the beach transforms itself into a place where tourists can visit food stalls and kiosks selling souvenirs and more. www.orissatourism.gov.in
