The four-day carnival in Goa underlines the phrase, paint the town red, quite literally! With exuberance in the air, the whole atmosphere is mirthful amidst parades and floats accompanied by feasting, singing and dancing, which are held at the major carnivals in Panjim, Margao, Vasco and Mapusa. Ideally, the carnival starts in Panjim and culminates on the beach in Calangute. The climax of the carnival is a colourful parade which snakes through the streets of Goa. The state provides the most beautiful of backdrops to its carnival, all of which can still be enjoyed alongside the event.

Traveller’s tip: Spot-booking of a hotel is often difficult to make at this time of the year, so browse through and select a place of choice and budget in advance.
