DISCOVER BUDDHIST CAVES

Region: Kondana Waterfall, Maharashtra

This remains an easy trek for children. About 74 km from Mumbai, this also remains a journey that’s steeped in history. Apart from the lush greenery and the cascading waterfall, the site of Kondana or Kondane caves at Karjat in Thane depicts the finest specimens of Buddhist architecture through 16 caves built around 200BC. The location of these caves is on the same mountain of Rajmachi Fort. During rains, the entrance of the caves gets curtained by a waterfall presenting a grand sight.

THRILL QUOTIENT: In monsoon, this seasonal waterfall provides an excellent opportunity for rappelling.

REACH THE SUMMIT

Region: Mullayanagiri Hills, Karnataka

Except for a few steep ascents, the trek is easy through serpentine forest trails. Feel the cool breeze amidst chirping of birds as the hills highlight a peaceful ambiance. Located in the western ghats of Chikmagalur, the peak is adorned with verdant grassland and rugged rocks. The trek is about 3km to Mullayandri, which can be extended to Bababudangiri. However, camping is forbidden in the area.

THRILL QUOTIENT: This is the highest peak in Karnataka, which offers unparalleled views of all its neighbouring ranges.

Region: Dodital, Uttarakhand

The trek to this high altitude lake with children can be fun-filled and equally enchanting. It provides an idyllic set up for recreational activities like angling, boating and bird-watching. The serene, tranquil surroundings, gurgling streams, crystal-clear water, and dense alpine forests make for an ideal retreat.

THRILL QUOTIENT: Camping with children near the lake with views of Dayara Bugyal and snowy, jagged peaks is quite an experience.
