As the bride waits for her groom, elephants are dressed in creations that are embroidered with traditional Kandyan designs, such as lotus flowers and swans and the delicious food is made with ghee. Couples prefer to hold their wedding in Jaisalmer, which is called the Gold City of India as it stands on a ridge of yellowish sandstone, crowned by a fort. Jaisalmer's medieval mud fortress and walled township make it a popular wedding destination. Camel safaris through the nearby desert dunes are popular with baraatis.
