The country is known for its heritage and culture with stunning scenery ranging from golden sand dunes to rugged wadi (gorges) and ship-wreck dives in the ocean. However, there are three activities adventure junkies should try:

Canyoning

Go off the beaten path and discover new places by cliff jumping and swimming through clear, deep pools, leaping through amazing waterfalls, walking through stunning locales and abseiling along beautiful canyons. In Wadi Bani Awf, there is a very sporty canyoning route of about 3 kms through the narrow Snake Gorge, which involve leaps into natural pools, abseiling and lasts for 3-4 hours.

Mountain Climbing

With more than 160 registered sites, Oman is a very popular destination for climbing enthusiasts. One famous spot is Jabal Misht, in the western Hajar Mountains. It's 1,000 metre cliffs are for experts only. The two via ferrata routes in Snake Canyon and Bandar Al Khayran cliffs, overlooking the sea, are more suitable for amateurs following a guide.

Kite Surfing

The island of Masirah in the south of Oman is a real haven of calm with a gentle sea breeze blowing through it. Masirah is very popular with kite surfing enthusiasts between May and September due to the area's outstanding winds. The natural environment is unspolit, there is a casual and relaxed atmosphere, and it is not uncommon to see flamingos and loggerhead sea turtles peacefully going about their business.
