Udupi cuisine may be your first point of reference, thanks to the many Udupi restaurants in your city where fresh steaming idlis and crispy dosas along with delicious chutneys and sambhar are served. But then, how about visiting the very town, which gave a title to this yummy cuisine.

Head to Udupi for a drive alongside a spectacular coastline. The Krishna Temple attracts many followers from across the world.

Udupi is also known as Rajata Peetha and Shivalli (Shivabelli), a centre of pilgrimage, situated about 58 km north of Mangalore and about 422 km northwest of Bangalore. You can easily drive around here.

KRISHNA'S BIRTHDAY

Krishna Janmashtami is celebrated with great pomp. During this festival groups of men wear 'Pili Vesha',which literally means 'tiger costume'. They visit houses and shops around Udupi, to perform a rather unique dance. There is a lot of enthusiasm among the participants and general public.

HOW TO GET HERE

From Bangalore, drive to Mangalore on NH48. Check beforehand on which ghat is passable ideally in this weather and then drive along to have fun.
